About Dr. Karla Koch

Dr. Karla Koch's accredited training grants her licensure as a doctor of naturopathic medicine (ND), as a doctor of Oriental medicine with expanded prescriptive authority (DOM Rx2), and as a registered nurse (RN). While an undergraduate and graduate student in pre-medicine and psychology, she was dismayed to find that conventional medical training failed to acknowledge the influence of lifestyle on health and disease. Seeking to expand the standard concepts of health and prevention, Karla went on to earn an ND in 2001 from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ. This is a four-year post-graduate medical program that includes basic medical sciences as well as clinical training in a wide variety of natural medicines and therapies. In 2003, Dr. Karla completed a four-year graduate level Oriental medicine program at the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in Albuquerque. She also developed her nursing skills for 10 years at the University of New Mexico Hospital.  Her passion is in combining these varied and valuable approaches to profoundly improve health and vitality.

Health Care Licensure

There is currently no regulation over the use of the title “ND” or “Naturopath” in New Mexico. As an issue of public safety, I maintain my ND license in Vermont to demonstrate that my training meets the standards required to obtain licensure as a primary care physician in Naturopathic medicine. I am licensed as a primary health care provider in New Mexico as a doctor of Oriental Medicine (DOM).

Dr. Karla Koch is the only physician in Albuquerque licensed in both Naturopathic and Oriental medicine.

Salubrio

​Salubrio stems from the combining of two words which also represent my goal for every patient: salubrious (healthy) and brio (vigor or vivacity).  I use a multi-faceted personalized approach that stimulates the body’s natural healing process and addresses primary symptoms as well as the underlying cause of illness. My diagnostic and healing techniques combine modern scientific, functional and traditional empirical methods to profoundly improve health and vitality.”
